The Ministry of Defence is seeking to appoint a senior executive to help enhance “cyber awareness, behaviours and culture” throughout the sector.

The post as deputy head of cyber awareness sits within a specialist Cyber Defence and Risk team whose role is to help mitigate security risks, and advise on policy and standards.

The awareness-focused position – which offers an annual salary of £64,620 – comes with a remit to “develop and implement strategy which will ensure that the cyber security awareness and behaviours of MoD personnel are more than a match for the threats we face”, according to the job advert.

Key responsibilities of the position include picking out the “the key areas of focus for awareness and behavioural change” and then create a programme dedicated to these areas, including “material targeted at different audiences across defence, including videos, e-learning, posters and general communication”. The postholder will also be expected to track, analyse and report on the impact of these activities.

The job advert added: “Cyber awareness, behaviours and culture is a foundational protection in cyber defence and our people are regarded as the real first line of defence in cyber and information security,” it added. “With a large number of personnel within defence and the extended enterprise, including veterans, families and suppliers, cyber awareness is one of the most critical cyber defences.”

The successful candidate will work with teams across the ministry and the wider defence sector, as well as other parts of government and commercials suppliers.

“The role will define, co-ordinate and produce effective awareness and training material for different audiences across defence and be responsible for driving the necessary behavioural change programme,” the advert added. “This leadership role is ideally suited to someone with a good grounding in cybersecurity and behavioural change.”

Applications for the role are open until 11.55pm on 18 June. The chosen applicant will be based at either MoD headquarters in Whitehall or at the RAF Wyton facility in Huntingdon.
